2024 started off on an exciting note as I embarked on an adventure to one of the most promising wine countries – Armenia. Known for its rich history, breathtaking landscapes, and warm hospitality, this hidden gem surprised me with its exceptional wine, kind-hearted people, and charming cafes and restaurants.
As a wine enthusiast, I was thrilled to explore Armenia’s booming wine industry. From vineyards nestled in picturesque valleys to state-of-the-art wineries, every sip was a testament to the country’s dedication to winemaking. The wine, undoubtedly, was on point, leaving an indelible mark on my palate.
We were delighted to partake in a wine tasting experience featuring Karas wines at one of Yerevan’s premier wine clubs, InVino. Guided by Armenia’s finest sommelier and accompanied by Juliana, the company’s owner, we were introduced to a spectrum of flavors and unique grape varieties previously unfamiliar to me. Among the selections, the Karas Red Blend 2017 captured my heart. As a devoted enthusiast of Tuscan wines, I was thoroughly astonished by the exceptional quality of this wine and found myself completely enamored by its rich and satisfying taste. And of course, I brought some bottles back to Italy to let my family and friends discover such exceptional wines!
However, it was the people of Armenia who truly stole my heart. Everywhere we went, we were greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. Their kindness extended beyond the tourist areas, making us feel like cherished guests in their beautiful country – and this is something you don’t find that easily anymore, especially in very touristic countries or places, like Italy. What’s more.. From the moment I boarded the plane, a serendipitous encounter with an Armenian woman brightened my journey. Engaging in conversation, she generously extended an offer to drive us to our hotel in Yerevan upon landing. As an Italian, I couldn’t help but ponder how rare such acts of kindness have become in my home country. In a world where mistrust and hesitation prevail, many people – unfortunately – miss out on the simple joys that pure kindness can bring.
Another highlight of our trip was discovering the vibrant café culture and delectable culinary scene of Armenia. Whether it was enjoying a cup of cappuccino in a quaint cafe or savoring traditional dishes in charming restaurants, each establishment had its own unique ambiance, and was filled with flowers everywhere, making each place simply GORGEOUS.
Armenia, let me just say from the bottom of my heart – you have truly won me over! I hope that countless others will have the opportunity to experience the incredible people and breathtaking beauty that your country has to offer. And without a doubt, I can confidently say that we will be back to immerse ourselves once again in your outstanding nature!
